Overview

An Experiential Outdoor Learning Program Rooted in Nature, Culture & Curiosity

The Coorg Wilderness Experience is a 4-day, 3-night immersive summer camp for children aged 8 to 16, designed to ignite curiosity, foster self-reliance, and nurture a deep bond with nature. Set within Beforest’s regenerative collective in Kakkabe, Coorg, this program blends outdoor adventure, cultural exploration, and environmental education in a pristine rainforest setting.

Co-created by Outdoor Classroom and Beforest, this initiative goes beyond conventional camps. It invites children to live and learn in harmony with the land — experiencing farm-to-table food, biodiversity-rich forests, Kodava heritage, and hands-on activities that challenge, engage, and inspire. From waterfall hikes and temple visits to forest night walks, rock hopping, and community cooking — each moment is crafted to be meaningful and memorable.

With a strong focus on safety, ecological sensitivity, and joyful learning, this program is the ideal choice for parents and schools seeking purpose-driven travel that builds resilience, leadership, empathy, and a sense of responsibility toward the planet.

Whether your child is a curious first-timer or a seasoned nature lover, the Coorg Wilderness Learning Journey offers a rare opportunity to grow, explore, and reflect — far from screens and closer to self.

Itinerary

Arrival in Mysore → Travel to Coorg | Waterfall Walk | Icebreaker Activities

The journey begins as children arrive in Mysore and set off toward the lush green hills of Coorg. After a scenic drive through winding forest roads, they reach the forest-facing Blyton Bungalow — a quiet, comfortable space surrounded by wilderness. A warm welcome awaits, and the group eases into the natural environment with a short walk to a nearby waterfall.

The afternoon brings engaging outdoor games designed to help children bond, feel at home, and shake off the travel fatigue. The day closes with a soft orientation to the landscape — learning about the region, the forest they're in, and what to expect over the next few days. It's a gentle start with a strong sense of arrival and connection.

Temple Visit | Palace Exploration | Ration Prep | Forest Hike | Night Walk

This day is a deep dive into the culture of Coorg. Participants explore the sacred Iguthappa Temple, a key spiritual site for the Kodava community, and the historic Nalknad Palace, learning about the region’s ancestral architecture, stories, and belief systems. These immersive experiences help children understand the values, history, and rhythms of a unique forest-dwelling people.

Later, they take part in an interactive ration preparation activity — planning and organising food supplies together as a team. This is followed by a scenic hike through open grasslands, where they observe the changing terrain and its flora. As night falls, a guided forest night walk with a naturalist offers a chance to tune into the forest’s sounds and signs — a powerful sensory experience that few ever get to have.

Jeep Ride | Stream Dip | Mud Games | Barbecue | Stargazing

Adventure takes centre stage today. The morning begins with a thrilling jeep ride through rough forest trails, offering wide views and the feeling of truly being inside the wild. Children then venture into shallow streams for a day of movement and exploration — rock hopping, wading through water, dipping into the bio-pool, and yes, getting delightfully muddy.

Back at base, the group winds down with a forest barbecue and shared storytelling around the fire. As darkness sets in, the stars come out in full glory. The day ends with a peaceful stargazing session, offering children the chance to reflect, wonder, and simply sit with the vastness of the sky.

Treasure Hunt | Lake Picnic | Coracle Boat Adventure | Departure

The final day begins with excitement and teamwork as children participate in a group treasure hunt — solving clues, following trails, and piecing together memories from the days before. This dynamic activity is designed to be fun, collaborative, and subtly reflective — encouraging children to connect their learning with play.

After the challenge, the group sets up a lakeside picnic and enjoys time in and around the water. One of the highlights is the coracle ride — a traditional round boat that glides quietly across the lake. It’s a joyful and calm finale to a high-energy journey. After lunch, the group travels back to Mysore, carrying with them new friendships, stories, and a deeper relationship with nature.

What Makes the Coorg Experience Special?

This isn’t just an outdoor camp — it’s a thoughtfully curated learning journey through forests, cultures, and self-discovery. Set in the wild green heart of Coorg, the program is designed to help children reconnect with the land, explore new ways of thinking, and grow through guided experience.

Here’s what sets it apart:

A Blend of Culture, Nature & Exploration
Children engage deeply with the local Kodava heritage — through visits to sacred temples, ancient palaces, and exposure to regional stories, music, and traditions. Alongside this, they explore pristine natural landscapes, waterfalls, and forest trails, experiencing Coorg as both classroom and playground.

Immersive, Hands-On Learning
Whether preparing group meals, navigating treasure hunts, or riding a coracle boat, participants take active roles in every part of the experience. These activities build teamwork, independence, and observation skills — all through guided, joyful action.

A Forest That Teaches
Set within over 300 acres of thriving wilderness, the program offers direct interaction with biodiversity, natural farming, and regenerative land practices. Children begin to see how water, soil, food, and wildlife are all part of a delicate balance — and how humans can live in rhythm with it.

Fully Engaged, Away from Screens
There are no devices here — only presence. Through nature journaling, group reflections, sensory observation, and movement-based learning, children engage with their environment and each other on a deeper, more authentic level.

Safe, Structured & Supported
Our team of trained facilitators and support staff ensure every child is seen, heard, and guided. Activities are paced with care, challenges are supported, and safety is built into every moment — allowing participants to stretch without fear.
